On June 18, Shanghai Ranking, a professional evaluation organization in higher education, released the 2025 Shanghai Rankings Chinese University Subject Rankings. 27 programs from eight universities in Hubei claimed the top spot nationwide, demonstrating strong disciplinary competitiveness. Among them, our university maintained its leading position among provincial universities in Hubei with an outstanding performance----88 programs making the list.

The programs of our university that entered the rankings accurately aligned with major strategic needs, including the AI-empowered Education Initiative, the national innovation-driven development strategy, and Made in China 2025. By deeply integrating frontier technology with industrial applications, the university forms a pyramid-shaped matrix of high-quality programs. This highlighted the universitys solid strength and remarkable achievements in professional development.

Behind these outstanding achievements lie the universitys consistent efforts and unremitting endeavors in the intensive cultivation of program development. In recent years, the university has closely centered on the Yangtze River Economic Belt Development Strategy, anchored in Hubeis 71020 University Discipline Innovation System Construction, and established a demand-driven and dynamically adjusted development mechanism for disciplines and programs.

In terms of program layout, the university took proactive steps to adapt and made targeted efforts. On one hand, it added several emerging programs, including Sports Training, Energy Storage Science and Engineering, Smart Energy Engineering, and Integrated Circuit Design and Integration Systems that aligned with national strategies and industrial upgrading needs. On the other hand, the university has suspended enrollment in select programs based on workforce demands, institutional positioning, and available resources, achieving the streamlining and optimization of its program structure.

Notably, the university has transformed scientific research achievements into teaching momentum by integrating superior resources. Taking programs related to Oil and Gas Engineering as examples, research teams led by Professor Zhao Hui and Professor Zhang Feifei have incorporated cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent reservoir development simulations and real-time monitoring of intelligent drilling into teaching practice. This not only enhanced the universitys scientific research strength but also enriched teaching content, building an integrated learning-research-application growth platform for students.

Nowadays, the university has established a discipline system with emerging engineering, new medicine, new agriculture, and new liberal arts as the backbone, featuring the coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It has formed a new pattern of professional development characterized by rational layout, distinct features, and prominent advantages. In the future, the university will continue to focus on program development as the core, deepen education and teaching reform, inject a steady stream of momentum into the high-quality development of higher education in Hubei, and cultivate more high-caliber innovative talents for the economic and social development of the country and the region.
