Established in 1983, the School of Urban Construction at Yangtze University operates under a dual-level management system between the university and its constituent colleges. It serves as a national pilot zone for innovation in the cultivation of application-oriented talent in civil engineering disciplines. Over the course of more than 40 years of development, the school has evolved into a significant national base for talent cultivation and scientific research in the civil and architectural engineering.

The School currently employs 85 faculty members, including 10 professors and 39 associate professors. Among them are 5 doctoral supervisors and 44 master's supervisors, comprising a research and teaching team characterized by a balanced age distribution and interdisciplinary integration.

The School offers two first-level master's programs in Civil Engineering and Architecture, as well as a professional master’s degree program in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. It also runs five undergraduate programs:
    - Civil Engineering
    - Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering
    - Intelligent Construction
    - Architecture (five-year program)
    - Urban and Rural Planning (five-year program)

Among these, the Civil Engineering and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering programs are designated as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs, while Architecture and Urban and Rural Planning are recognized as First-Class Undergraduate Programs in Hubei Province. The Civil Engineering program has passed national professional accreditation twice, in 2014 and 2017, while the Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering program received national accreditation in both 2021 and 2024. Civil Engineering is also a provincial key discipline and admits doctoral candidates under the first-level doctoral programs in Geological Resources and Geological Engineering and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering.

In terms of talent cultivation, the School has developed several innovative educational models, including:
    - The "Alternating Work-Study Model" integrating internships with employment,
    - The "Experiential Construction Model" combining virtual simulation with on-site practice, and
    - The "Integrated Professional and Ideological Education Model" blending technical and moral education.

These initiatives have consecutively earned the First Prize for Teaching Achievement in Hubei Province over four assessment cycles.

In the realm of scientific research, the School aligns closely with the university's distinctive strengths, focusing on key research areas such as:
    - Intelligent detection of oil and gas equipment,
    - Multi-field coupling in rock masses and disaster prevention and control,
    - Intelligent monitoring and novel materials for roads and bridges,
    - Resource utilization and integration of solid-liquid waste,
    - Digital and intelligent transformation in architecture ("Smart Architecture").

In the past five years, the School has undertaken more than 80 provincial-level and above research projects and over 200 enterprise-funded projects, with total research funding exceeding 75 million RMB. It has also won 10 provincial or ministerial-level scientific research awards.

The School currently hosts three national-level platforms:
    - The CSC Innovative Talent International Cooperation Training Program,
    - The National Pilot Zone for Innovative Training Models in Civil Engineering,
    - The MOE Comprehensive Reform Project for Civil Engineering Disciplines.

Additionally, it operates four provincial or ministerial-level platforms:
    - The Hubei Provincial Research Center for Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering,
    - The Hubei Provincial Industry-University Joint Innovation Center for New Wall Materials,
    - The Hubei Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Civil Engineering, and
    - The Hubei Provincial BIM Virtual Simulation Comprehensive Teaching and Training Platform.

The School is equipped with advanced experimental facilities, including:
    - Large L-shaped reaction walls,
    - Four-channel electro-hydraulic servo loading systems,
    - Electro-hydraulic servo fatigue testing systems for structures,
    - Electro-hydraulic servo testing systems for long-column structures,
    - Triaxial testing systems for multi-field coupling (temperature–stress–seepage–chemical),
    - Microstructural analysis and imaging devices for fluid-solid coupling,
    - 3D digital speckle deformation measurement and analysis systems,
    - Universal testing machines,
    - Multi-functional climate simulation chambers,
    - 3D printers,

With a total equipment value exceeding 50 million RMB.
