    Yangtze University has a long and distinguished history, tracing its origins back to 1936. In 2003, it was formed through the merger of four institutions, leading to integrated and coordinated development. Over the past 89 years, it has grown into the largest and most comprehensive university in Hubei Province. The university has been selected for several key national and provincial initiatives, including China’s “Education Power Promotion Project” Hubei’s High-Level University Development Program, and the “Domestic First-Class University Construction Project” in Hubei. Yangtze University is jointly supported by the Hubei Provincial Government, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.


    Organizational StructureThe college consists of six academic departments: Drilling Engineering, Petroleum Development Engineering, Petroleum Chemical Engineering, Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering, and New Energy Science and Engineering. It also houses several research and administrative units, including the Petroleum Engineering Research Center (jointly established with Jianghan Petroleum Engineering Company), the Virtual Simulation Training Center for Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation (jointly established with Kongsberg Group, Norway), the Deep-Sea Oil and Gas Development Institute, the Teaching and Research Laboratory Center, the School Office, the Academic and Research Affairs Office, the First-Class Discipline Development Office, the Student Affairs Office, and the Sino-Russian Energy Institute (International Exchange and Cooperation Office). 


    FacultyThe college currently has 171 faculty and staff members, including 149 full-time faculty. Among them, there are 36 professors and 65 associate professors, accounting for 68% of the total teaching staff. A total of 133 faculty members (88%) hold doctoral degrees. The college has received 20 provincial and ministerial-level talent awards, including: 2 recipients of the National Excellent Teacher Award, 1 Distinguished Professor under the "Changjiang Scholars Program," 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 recipients of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, 1 Young Scholar under the "Changjiang Scholars Program," 1 Leading Talent under the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program," 3 experts receiving the State Council Special Allowance, 8 "Chutian Scholars," and 3 Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts of Hubei Province. In addition, the college has 3 dual-appointed academicians.


    Discipline DevelopmentThe college offers a first-level doctoral program in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and hosts a postdoctoral research station. It also offers four second-level doctoral programs in Oil and Gas Field Development Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, and Applied Chemistry in Oil and Gas Fields. In addition, it confers master’s degrees in Resources and Environment, including for candidates with equivalent academic qualifications. Undergraduate programs include Petroleum Engineering (recognized as a National Featured Program in 2009 and a National First-Class Undergraduate Program in 2020), Marine Oil and Gas Engineering, Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering (recognized as a Hubei Province First-Class Undergraduate Program in 2020), New Energy Science and Engineering, and Intelligent Energy Engineering. In the fifth national discipline evaluation, the discipline of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering was rated as a "First-Class Discipline in China."

    Research OutputIn the past five years, the college has received 44 provincial and ministerial-level scientific awards, published 528 SCI/EI-indexed papers, authored 11 academic monographs, and obtained 204 invention patents. The college's innovations in intelligent drilling fluids, reservoir optimization, and energy equipment have had a significant industrial impact. 


    Outstanding Talent DevelopmentIn recent years, students have received 137 national-level awards, published 880 academic papers, and obtained 92 patents. Over 80% of students pass the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) on their first attempt. The employment rate exceeds 90%, and more than 40% of graduates pursue postgraduate studies. A total of 133 national and provincial innovation training programs have been undertaken. Many graduates have gone on to become leaders in industry, distinguished scholars, and successful entrepreneurs. 


    Global CollaborationThe college has established “2+2” joint programs with prestigious universities such as Stanford University (USA), the University of Calgary (Canada), and Tomsk State University (Russia), promoting collaborative research and academic exchange. It actively recruits international scholars and integrates global best practices to cultivate talent with a global perspective.
