The Future Technology College of Yangtze University was established in August 2024. This is a significant initiative by the university to meet the demands of the national transformation of the high-level talent cultivation mechanism. Through the deep integration of artificial intelligence, new-generation information technology and energy science, the college explores a new model of interdisciplinary innovation in the energy field and a new paradigm for cultivating technical leaders. The college adheres to the educational philosophy of cultivating individuals with noble character, solid foundation, profound expertise, and the integration of knowledge and action. It fully leverages the university’s advantages in the first-class discipline of petroleum and natural gas engineering, promoting the deep integration of related fields such as new energy, energy storage science, and artificial intelligence technology. It aims to address the shortcomings in the field of information and intelligence for resources and energy-related talents, innovating the training mechanism with characteristics such as mentor groups, team-based, interdisciplinary, and wide access, to form a new high-level talent cultivation model that integrates multiple disciplines. This aims to support breakthroughs in frontier technologies and cultivate highly qualified, multi-disciplinary, innovative, and highly competent talents with a broad knowledge base, proficient in advanced information and intelligence technology tools, possessing innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities, capable of foreseeing and grasping the future technological development in the fields of new energy, energy storage science, and artificial intelligence, and having the courage to explore and implement.
The college is currently operated under the supervision of the undergraduate school. Currently, it has three undergraduate majors: Artificial Intelligence, Energy Storage Science and Engineering, and Smart Energy Engineering. There are 66 undergraduate students in the 2023 and 2024 grades. Through college entrance examination admission and internal selection, students with strong mathematical and logical foundation, good English communication skills, and high comprehensive qualities are selected as the training targets for top-notch innovative talents. They will undergo “3+1+X” integrated undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education. The undergraduate study lasts for 3 years, and the connection with master’s and doctoral studies lasts for 1 year, with X ranging from 3 to 6 years for master’s and doctoral studies.
