    The School of Information and Mathematics of Yangtze University was established in January 2004 by the merger of the former School of Science of Jianghan Petroleum Institute, the Department of Information Engineering of Hubei Agricultural University, and the Department of Mathematics of Jingzhou Normal University. The school has a long history of running an academy and profound cultural deposits. The mathematics discipline originated from the mathematics department of the Fourth District of Hubei Province Simple Normal School founded in 1936, which is known as "Anti-Japanese Military and Political University of Jiangnan" and "Public School in Northern Shaanxi of Hubei".

     

    The School has two departments and one center: the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Data Computing and Application, and the Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science. It includes three undergraduate majors: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Data Computing and Application, and Information and Computing Science. The School has two research institutes: the Institute of Basic Mathematics and the Institute of Applied Mathematics. Among them, the major of mathematics and applied mathematics was selected as a national first-class undergraduate construction major. The school has a master's degree program in mathematics and subject teaching. Secondary education in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics has passed the second level of accreditation of the Ministry of Education for teacher training. At present, there are "Advanced Mathematics A" national online and offline blended first-class course, "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" provincial online and offline first-class course, "Mathematical Analysis" provincial first-class offline course, "Advanced Mathematics Intensive Lecture (I)" provincial first-class online course, and two university-level excellent courses: "Numerical Calculation Methods" and "Linear Algebra".


    The school has a strong teaching team, with 79 faculty members, including 69 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 65% are with senior professional titles, and 54% are with doctoral degrees. There are four Chutian scholars and two visiting professors. At present, there are 1,141 full-time undergraduate students and 184 graduate students. Over the past 90 years, the school has cultivated more than 10,000 graduates for the country, who have struggled on all fronts of national construction, including four national outstanding young talents and one famous teacher of the 10,000 Talents Program.


    Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the school has been approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China for ten projects; more than 10 million yuan of scientific research funds have been received. It has published more than 100 high-quality papers; won five national invention patents; one second prize of Hubei Provincial Natural Science Award. The school has four laboratories: mathematical modeling, data computing and application, machine learning and simulation computing, and teacher training. It has a professional library with more than 9,000 books and more than fifty kinds of academic journals.


    In recent years, the pass rate of CET-4 and the admission rate of postgraduate entrance examination have been among the top of the university. Every year, the team participates in the National Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the Mathematics Contest and the Data Mining Contest for Undergraduates, and has achieved excellent results. The school's "Kang Da Shu Liang" cultural festival has become a resounding campus cultural brand, and "Science and Technology Innovation Kang Da" has become a beautiful landscape of the university.
