The College of Resources and Environment is located in the Wuhan Campus of Yangtze University, which lies in the beautiful Caidian District of Wuhan. The campus is surrounded by the famous Houguanhu National Wetland Park on three sides. The campus is bounded to the east by the Ma’an Mountain, and to west by the Jiuzhen Mountain, which is the highest peak of the Jianghan Plain, and is at the opposite side of the Sino-French Wuhan Ecological Demonstration City across the lake. The rolling water of the East Yangtze River looks back here, and the gushing Han River flows south to meet here, and the heavenly treasures and the spirit of the people are excellent, which is a good quiet place to study and become a talent.
The predecessor of the college is the analytical testing research center established in 1986, which is the cradle of the birth of reservoir geochemistry in China. The faculty of the college is famous with a reasonable age structure. The present faculty number is 79 (including postdoctors), including 62 full-time teachers (including postdoctors), 7 experimental teachers. There are 1 "double-employed academician", 1 national-level special professor, 1 provincial-level full-time special professor, 4 "Chutian Scholars" distinguished professors, 4 "Chutian scholars" special professors, 5 visiting professors, 2 experts enjoying state and Hubei provincial government subsidies, 2 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province, and 1 cross-century academic leader of China National Petroleum Corporation. There is 1 cross-century academic leader in Hubei Province, 2 academic backbones in Hubei Province, and 1 high-level talent engineer in Hubei Province in the new century. There are 16 active professors and 26 associate professors in the teaching team, including 10 full-time doctoral supervisors and 33 master's supervisors.
The college has three undergraduate majors in geochemistry, hydrology and water resources engineering and environmental ecological engineering, of which geochemistry is the first-class undergraduate major in Hubei Province, and hydrology and water resources engineering is the national first-class undergraduate major. The college has mineral prospecting and exploration (engineering), hydraulic engineering (engineering), earth exploration and information technology (engineering), geological engineering (engineering), geochemistry (science) and mineralogy, petrology ore deposits (science). As well as 7 master's programs in resources and environment (professional degrees); 2 doctoral programs in mineral prospecting and exploration and earth exploration and information technology; and a postdoctoral mobile station in "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering".
Geochemistry is a key and characteristic discipline in Hubei Province which has a solid research foundation and strong research strength, forming six stable research directions of oil and gas geochemistry, biogeochemistry, environmental geochemistry, mineral deposit geochemistry and new technologies and methods for analysis and testing. Relying on the strong petroleum geological background of our university, the major of hydrology and water resources engineering has established the idea of running a school featuring groundwater and taking into account surface water, and has now formed research directions such as hydrology and water resources, groundwater science and engineering, river and lake water environmental protection and ecological restoration of oilfield water environment. The Department of Environmental Ecological Engineering is characterized by environmental protection and ecological restoration, guided by the development and application of soil, river and lake, and atmospheric treatment technologies, and is committed to the research of environmental quality assessment, environmental carrying capacity assessment, medium and long-term early warning of environmental risks, environmental governance and restoration, ecosystem reconstruction, clean energy development, and land resource utilization.
In recent years, the School of Resources and Environment has completed 91 national, provincial and ministerial longitudinal projects, including 19 national natural science foundation projects, 22 national key research projects, 15 provincial and ministerial fund projects, 36 provincial and ministerial key research projects, 12 international cooperation projects, nearly 400 horizontal projects, with an average annual scientific research fund of 20 million yuan. The college has won 1 third prize of national scientific and technological progress, 1 first prize of provincial natural science, 1 second prize of provincial natural science, 2 first prizes of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress, 2 second prizes of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress, and 4 third prizes of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress.
The college has three provincial and ministerial key laboratories, namely the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Geochemistry of China National Petroleum Corporation, the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Resources and Exploration Technology of the Ministry of Education, and the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Geochemistry and Environment of Hubei Province. The Geochemistry Laboratory is one of the constituent units of the first key laboratory "Key Laboratory of Petroleum Geochemistry" established by China National Petroleum Corporation in 1999. The laboratory takes organic geochemistry as the main discipline, combines scientific research and teaching, and successfully passed the review of the National Metrology Certification Review Team in 1999, becoming one of the domestic organic geochemical analysis centers recognized internationally. The laboratory has the first in Asia, the world's third chromatography - mass spectrometry analyzer, isotopic mass spectrometry, electric inclusion temperature measurement system, gas chromatography, electron scanning microscope, microphotometer and other large equipment more than 20 sets, worth more than 30 million yuan, is currently building resources and environment digital simulation laboratory, water ecological restoration process resource animation simulation laboratory, etc., with powerful computer hardware systems and software systems, can provide strong support for teaching and scientific research.
In order to vigorously cultivate students' innovative ability and practical hands-on operation ability, the School of Resources and Environment has built a number of large-scale outdoor scientific research pilot bases and off-campus teaching bases. The college has built an internship teaching base in Qinhuangdao, Hebei, Zhangjiajie, Songzi, Liujiachang, Jianghan Oilfield, Yichang Three Gorges, Hubei Daye, Yichang Qingjiang, Danjiangkou, Caidian Environmental Protection Bureau and so on. Giving full play to the advantages of Houguanhu National Wetland Park surrounded on three sides, the college cooperated with the Sino-French Wuhan Ecological Demonstration City, Wuhan Lake Bureau, Caidian District Water Bureau, etc., and built an outdoor teaching and scientific research pilot base of "Mingyuan Lake" on the shore of Houguan Lake in the campus, which has the powerful function of simulating the treatment, restoration and maintenance of various ecological environments.
The School of Resources and Environment is also the affiliated unit of the International Institute of Water Ecology of Yangtze University, which now has a high-level scientific research team with distinguished professor Yao Huaming and outstanding professor of “Chutian scholars” Lin Yan as the academic leader, and young and middle-aged experts and outstanding doctors as the academic backbone.
The faculty and staff of the college put teaching and educating students in the first place in all work, care for and love every student, pay attention to cultivating students' independent thinking ability and practical ability to discover problems, analyze problems and solve problems, and shape the values of students striving to be strong, seeking truth from facts, having the courage to innovate and dare to take responsibility. Over the years, the college has been adhering to the "based on undergraduates" development idea, teaching achievements. The talent training effect of is outstanding, which the proportion of undergraduate graduates to obtain master's degree students at one time is stable at more than 40%, and the employment rate of graduates has remained above 95% for many years.
