The College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering of Yangtze University was founded in 1978 and was established in January 2004.
The College now has the Department of Chemistry (Institute of Applied Electrochemistry), Department of Applied Chemistry (Institute of Oilfield Chemistry), Department of Chemical Engineering (Institute of Chemical Engineering), Department of Polymer Materials and Engineering (Institute of Materials). There are six teaching institutions in the Department of Environmental Engineering (Environmental Protection Institute) and the Experimental Center.
The college has five undergraduate majors in chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer materials and engineering, environmental engineering and chemical engineering and technology (chemical process direction, petroleum refining direction). Chemical engineering and technology is a national characteristic specialty, Hubei brand specialty and Hubei petrochemical strategic pillar industry professional plan. The major of applied chemistry is the brand major of Hubei Province, and has been approved the talent training project of strategic emerging (pillar) industry in Hubei Province and the pilot project of "Comprehensive Reform of Specialty" in undergraduate colleges and universities in Hubei Province. The establishment of chemistry major is the earliest, which has provided a large number of outstanding talents for the relevant departments of the country and related industries. Since the establishment of polymer materials and engineering major, the quality of students and employment situation have been very good. The major of environmental engineering began to enroll undergraduates in 1987 and has a history of more than 30 years. It is the first national petroleum university to be approved by the Ministry of Education to enroll undergraduates majoring in environmental engineering.
The college has 127 staff, of which 95 are full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 36 professors, 33 associate professors, 80% of teachers with senior titles and 60% of doctorates, 8 doctoral supervisors and 42 master mentors. He was selected as one person in the National 10 million Talent Project, one young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions from the state, three young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province, two experts enjoying the special allowance of the Hubei Provincial Government, and one leader of cross-century disciplines in Hubei Province. There are 1 famous teaching teacher in Yangtze University, 2 winners of Outstanding contribution Award in Teaching work, 1 first Prize in Teaching Competition for Young Teachers in Hubei Province, 2 Professor of Chutian Scholars, 1 Chutian Student and 1 Advanced individual of Teachers' morality in Hubei Province.
The college has distinct characteristics and great strength in the aspects of talent training mode, discipline and specialty construction and platform construction. Existing "oil and gas field applied chemistry" second-level discipline doctor authorization point, "chemical engineering and technology", "environmental science and engineering" two first-level discipline master's degree point, chemical engineering, material engineering two master's degree authorization point; "Applied Chemistry" is a key discipline in Hubei Province and a post subject set up by Chutian scholars. The college has a national-level, seven provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research platform, two joint training bases for graduate students.
The scientific research work of the college has obvious advantages and characteristics. The research field and direction are mainly related to oil and gas field applied chemistry, oil and gas field environmental protection and fine chemical industry and so on. In the past five years, teachers have presided over 56 longitudinal scientific research projects at the national level, provincial and ministerial level, and undertaken 253 horizontal scientific research projects, with an average annual scientific research expenditure of more than 20 million yuan. 580 papers have been published in academic journals at home and abroad, of which 174 have been collected by SCI etc. Published 8 academic works, 49 technologies obtained the national invention patent authorization. He won 16 awards for scientific and technological progress at or above the provincial and ministerial level, among which "drilling fluid technology and industrial application of chemical wall consolidation and protection of oil and gas reservoirs" won the second prize of national scientific and technological progress. "Research and Application of Gemini Surfactant Technology" won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hubei Province in 2015.
The college actively carries out foreign cooperation and exchanges. It has carried out scientific research cooperation with Canada, Russia, Germany, Japan and other countries in many fields. In addition, Nobel Prize winners in chemistry, academicians of the Royal Academy of Sciences, academicians of the American Academy of Engineering, and experts and scholars from more than 20 well-known universities at home and abroad, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University, are invited to give lectures and carry out academic exchanges.
