Long history of schooling and beautiful campus environment
The School of Geosciences of Yangtze University originated from Beijing Petroleum Industry College (the first petroleum school in People’s Republic of China) established in 1950, and then had been relocated several times with the university, and had run schools in Daqing, Jingzhou and other places successively, and moved to Wuhan campus in 2012.
The Wuhan campus of Yangtze University is located by the beautiful Zhiyin Lake in the Caidian District of Wuhan City, it is surrounded by water on three sides, quiet and elegant, and has convenient transportation and is an ideal place for studying and learning.
Complete Training Levels and Complete Teaching Platform
The school has formed a complete training level system of "undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, and post-doctoral fellows". The school has 1 first-level doctoral degree authorization discipline and 1 post-doctoral station of "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering", has 3 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines of "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering", "Geology" and "Mapping Science and Technology", and has 4 undergraduate majors of “Resource Exploration Engineering”, “Geology”, “Geographic Information Science” and “Earth Information Science and Technology”. Among them, the Resource Exploration Engineering is the national first-class undergraduate major, the national featured major, the major certified by International Engineering Education, and the major implemented by the comprehensive pilot reform of the Ministry of Education, the "Excellence Program" and the "Talent Program" of Hubei Province; the major of Geology is the first-class undergraduate major of Hubei Province; the Geographic Information Science is the first-class undergraduate major of Hubei Province and the implementation major of Hubei Province strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent training program. The school has the qualification of exam-free graduate student recommendation and continuous academic program that involves postgraduate and doctoral study, and is the innovation base for graduate training in Hubei Province.
The school has 3 national and provincial quality courses including "Sedimentary Petrology" and "Petroleum and Natural Gas Geology", and 3 national and provincial teaching teams. It has 1 national off-campus practical education base (Jianghan Oilfield Practice Base) and Hubei Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Petroleum Exploration and Development. In addition, there are 4 field geology practice bases in Qinhuangdao, Songzi, Daye and Tongshan, and practice bases for undergraduate and graduate students in CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC and Oklahoma State of America for industry-academia-research cooperation and cultivation. In recent years, the faculties have edited 4 national planning textbooks and 6 higher education planning textbooks, and won 10 national and provincial teaching achievement awards, including 1 national second-class award, 1 provincial special award and 4 provincial first-class awards.
Distinctive disciplinary characteristics and superior research conditions
The discipline of "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering" is the “domestic first-class construction disciplines" in Hubei Province, and the school has 4 advantageous and innovative disciplines in Hubei Province, including “mineral census and exploration”, “geology”, “cartography and geographic information system”. At the same time, the school has several provincial and ministerial laboratories, such as the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Resources and Exploration Technology of the Ministry of Education, the Cooperative Innovation Center of Unconventional Oil and Gas, and the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir of CNPC. The academic disciplines have formed distinctive features in “geological resources and geological engineering”, “geology”, and “mapping science and technology”.
Focusing on "Four Services" and "Four Orientations", the school actively serves the national major energy strategic needs and the economic construction of Hubei Province, gives full play to its disciplinary advantages, continues to carry out Industry-University-Research Collaboration, writes papers on the motherland, and makes important contributions to the national energy security and local economic development. In the past 5 years, the school has undertaken more than 200 scientific research projects including the National "973", National Natural Science Foundation, National Science and Technology Major Project, etc., with total research funding of 256 million yuan, an annual average of 51.2 million yuan. The sufficient research projects and research funds have strongly supported the training of undergraduate and graduate students. The research achievements have won 26 national and provincial awards, including 1 national special award, 2 national first-class awards, 2 national second-class awards, 4 provincial and ministerial first-class awards. There are more than 30 published monographs, and more than 900 academic papers. 2 Hubei Provincial Natural Science Innovation Groups have emerged, namely, "Carbonate Reservoir Sedimentology" and "Fine Characterization and Modeling of Reservoirs".
First-class faculties and excellent talent cultivation
The school has 135 faculty members, including 111full-time teachers. Among them, there are 101 doctors, 30 professors, 40 associate professors, 19 doctoral supervisors and 73 master supervisors. The school also employs 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 special expert of Hubei Province "Hundred People Plan", 3 special professors and lecturers of Hubei Province "Chutian Scholar Plan". There are 1 national outstanding teacher, 5 experts who enjoy the allowances of the State Council and the provincial government, 1 young expert with outstanding contribution in Hubei Province, 2 recipients of the New Century High-Level Talent Project in Hubei Province, 2 outstanding innovation groups in natural science in Hubei Province, 1 recipient of the Hubei Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 teaching famous teachers in Hubei Province, 5 Chutian scholars of Hubei Province, and 17 people selected in the Changjiang Talent Program of the Yangtze university.
Over the past 70 years, nearly 10,000 graduates have gone to the society and worked in the main battlefield of national construction. The one-time employment rate of all graduates is over 95%, and more than 40% of them have been admitted to graduate schools to pursue further studies. Among them, there are scholars, political leaders and business elites, such as Zhang Dinghua (Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Party Group of the National Federation of Trade Unions, and member of the 14th and 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China), Wang Tieguan (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Deng Yunhua (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Cai Chunfang (receipt of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), Li Maowen (Distinguished Scholar), Duan Taizhong (Distinguished Scholar), Sun Zandong (Distinguished Scholar), Ma Xinhua (Corporate Executive), Fang Zhixiong (Corporate Executive), Li Donghai (Corporate Executive), Yang Xuewen (Corporate Executive), and others.
